Consulting

High-speed Internet Access Service
Inmarsat RBGAN Satellite Services
a) MTC offers a new exiting service called RBGAN. The RBGAN service enables users to benefit from data rate throughputs up to 144 Kb/s using a GPRS interface. RBGAN is a DATA only service heralding a totally new way of looking at satellite communication and the services it offers. Hence the distinction Mobile IP-Satellite Modem.
b) RBGAN stands for Regional Broadband Global Area Network The system uses for the first time GPRS technology in satellite comm. enabling much faster data transfers then was previously possible. Using GPRS technology the system will be packet data switched which in turn means the user only pays for data sent or received enabling 24×7 online connect-ivity with an “always-on IP link” at no extra cost! The user will pay per Megabyte.
c) The RBGAN Mobile Satellite Modem opens up a wide variety of options for those users in countries with no or unreliable terrestrial communication networks. It enables users to use LAN connectivity, Internet browsing, e-mail, remote monitoring etc.
d) As it is a packet data switched terminal it does however have certain drawbacks. Live video-streaming and live broadcasting of voice still requires a circuit switched system like GAN to work. However RBGAN will make the GAN MPDS mode look very slow indeed. Services at which the RBGAN should excel are: E-mail applications, File transfers, Web browsing, Database queries and LAN/WAN applications.
e) The system utilizes the Thuraya regional satellite covering; North Africa, The Middle East, Europe and a large part of Russia & Asia.

f)The RBGAN IP Mobile Satellite Modem has the size & weight as a laptop computer; it features:
• USB
• Bluetooth
• Ethernet connection
